Morning: After breakfast, your private guide and driver will take you on a comfortable drive of about 85 km to the famous Stone Forest, one of China’s most remarkable karst landscapes. Here, you will walk among towering limestone formations that rise dramatically from the ground, resembling a vast stone forest stretching as far as the eye can see.
Formed over 270 million years through tectonic movements and natural erosion, this surreal landscape is not only a geological wonder, but also a cultural homeland of the Yi ethnic minority, known for their colorful costumes, embroidery, and traditional dances. Your guide will share fascinating stories about the legends, geology, and local traditions that bring this unique place to life.
Afternoon: Return to Kunming and continue your exploration at Yuantong Temple, the largest and most important Buddhist temple in the city. Unlike most temples in China, Yuantong Temple is built in a sunken courtyard, blending classical Chinese architecture with tranquil gardens, lotus ponds, stone bridges, and elegant pavilions. As you stroll through the temple complex, your guide will explain its long history and its special significance in Yunnan and Southeast Asia.
You will also discover the rare coexistence of three major Buddhist traditions here – Mahayana, Theravada, and Tibetan Buddhism – making this temple a unique spiritual site in China. Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely walk to nearby Green Lake Park, one of Kunming’s most beloved public spaces. Surrounded by traditional pavilions, winding corridors, and lush greenery, the park offers a perfect glimpse into local daily life.
You will see residents singing, dancing, chatting, and practicing tai chi, creating a lively yet relaxing atmosphere. Between November and March, thousands of black-headed seagulls migrate from Siberia to spend the winter here. If you are visiting during this season, you’ll have the chance to interact with these cheerful birds – a delightful and memorable experience.

Morning: This morning, your private driver will transfer you to Kunming Railway Station, where you will board a comfortable high-speed train to Dali (approximately 2 hours). Your journey starts with a relaxing cruise on Erhai Lake, beautifully nestled at the foot of the Cangshan Mountains.
As you glide across the calm waters, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes while your guide introduces the deep cultural connection between Erhai and the Bai ethnic community, who have lived along its shores for generations. After the cruise, visit the picturesque Jinsuo Island, where you can explore well-preserved traditional architecture, stroll through quiet lanes, and soak in the island’s peaceful and authentic atmosphere.
Afternoon: Continue to the iconic Chongsheng Temple and the Three Pagodas, the most famous landmark of Dali. The central pagoda rises 69 meters high, flanked by two smaller pagodas, forming a perfectly balanced triangular layout. Originally built during the Nanzhao Kingdom (738-902 AD), the Three Pagodas stand as a symbol of ancient Dali’s prosperity and strong Buddhist heritage.
Inside the temple complex, you will find a rich collection of Buddhist statues and historical relics accumulated over centuries, offering insight into the region’s spiritual and cultural legacy. Later, explore the charming Dali Old Town, once the capital of both the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms. Designed in a traditional grid layout, the old town features five main north-south streets and eight east-west lanes.
Enjoy a leisurely walk along its historic stone-paved streets, framed by willow trees and colorful flowers. Stroll down Renmin Road, browse lively shops selling local crafts and Yunnan specialties, and visit a local Christian church, adding another perspective on the town’s cultural history.
Continue to the famous Foreigner Street, where you can wander among boutique shops, cozy cafés, and old-style storefronts, experiencing the vibrant atmosphere that blends history with modern life. Walking through Dali Old Town feels like stepping back in time, yet with a lively and relaxed rhythm unique to this historic city.

Stalls overflow with fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, daily household goods, and tempting local snacks, while cheerful voices fill the air with energy.
As you wander through the market, you may encounter vendors dressed in traditional Bai costumes – a vivid and colorful glimpse into local ethnic culture. Here, you will visit a traditional indigo dye workshop that has been passed down through generations.
Watch the entire tie-dye process up close – from hand-drawing and thread binding, to indigo soaking, rinsing, and drying. Each step reflects the patience, creativity, and craftsmanship of local artisans, allowing you to truly appreciate the beauty of this ancient art form.

From here, enjoy sweeping alpine views and admire the majestic panorama of the entire snow mountain range from one of the best vantage points. The color of the river shifts beautifully with changing sunlight and weather conditions, creating a dreamlike landscape that feels almost unreal.
Afternoon: Continue to Baisha Village, one of the earliest settlements of the Naxi people. Morning: After breakfast, your private guide and dedicated driver will pick you up from your hotel and set off for Shangri-La, often described as the “Land of Sun and Moon in One’s Heart.” This journey is not just a geographical transition, but a scenic road trip through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in northwestern Yunnan. Along the way, your guide will select the best viewpoints for short stops, allowing you to fully appreciate the dramatic highland scenery.
Your first stop is the iconic First Bend of the Yangtze River, located on the upper reaches of the Jinsha River. Here, the river, which has been flowing southward, suddenly makes a dramatic turn and curves sharply toward the northeast, forming a magnificent crescent-shaped bend. Standing at the viewpoint, you will witness the powerful river carving its path through deep valleys – a truly spectacular natural wonder.
Afternoon: Continue your journey to the world-famous Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest and most dramatic gorges on Earth. On both sides of the canyon, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain rise in dramatic opposition, their steep ridges towering over 3,900 meters above sea level.
You may choose to walk along the well-maintained riverside trail for a closer view of the roaring Jinsha River, watching massive currents crash against giant rocks while feeling the mist in the air and hearing the thunderous sound of rushing water. Alternatively, you can enjoy the scenery from panoramic viewing platforms, where the entire gorge unfolds before your eyes – a powerful river surging through towering cliffs, creating a scene of raw and untamed beauty.
As you approach Shangri-La, the fresh high-altitude air becomes noticeable, and snow-capped peaks shimmer under the sunlight in the distance.
Evening: Upon arrival in Shangri-La, check in to your hotel and take some time to rest. Later, you may enjoy a leisurely stroll through Shangri-La Old Town, where ancient stone-paved streets wind between traditional Tibetan-style buildings. Prayer wheels spin gently in the breeze, while the aroma of butter tea and barley wine fills the air.
You are free to step into a local Tibetan shop, chat with friendly residents, or simply sit back and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as the sun sets over the old town – an ideal way to begin your journey in this mystical highland paradise. High-altitude travel tips: Before travel, discuss altitude concerns and any medication with a qualified clinician. On arrival, take things slowly, avoid strenuous activity and alcohol, and let your guide know promptly if you feel unwell.
The walking paths at Tiger Leaping Gorge can be physically demanding, so you may choose between light walks or simply enjoying the views from observation decks, depending on your comfort level.
