Tour Code: GZ-327-7D

What You’ll Experience on This 7-Day Guizhou Journey

This 7-day private Guizhou journey is designed for travelers who want to experience a more scenic, culturally distinctive, and less rushed side of China. Rather than focusing on big-name cities, the route moves through Guiyang, Huangguoshu, Libo, Xijiang, and Zhenyuan, combining dramatic waterfalls, emerald karst landscapes, hillside wooden villages, and old riverside streets into one well-paced itinerary.

From the sheer power of Huangguoshu Waterfall to the dreamlike waters of Libo Xiaoqikong, from the evening lights of Xijiang Miao Village to the quiet charm of Zhenyuan Ancient Town, this journey reveals a part of southwest China that feels visually rich and deeply rooted in local life. The result is a private tour with strong natural contrast, meaningful cultural texture, and a pace that feels immersive rather than hurried.

7-Day Guizhou Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Guiyang

Upon arrival at Guiyang Airport or the high-speed rail station, your private guide and private driver will greet you with a personalized welcome sign and escort you by private vehicle to your hotel in the city center, ensuring a smooth and comfortable start to your journey. If time allows after check-in, you will begin with a visit to Jiaxiu Pavilion, Guiyang’s most iconic historic landmark.

Gracefully set above the Nanming River and reached via the old Fuyu Bridge, it offers an ideal introduction to the character of the city. Here, traditional architecture, riverside scenery, and the modern skyline come together in a calm yet striking contrast. In the evening, you may head to Qingyun Road or Erqi Road to experience Guiyang’s local food culture and lively nightlife.

Under the glow of the city lights and in the easy rhythm of the evening, it is a relaxed and enjoyable way to begin your journey in Guizhou. For dinner, your guide will be happy to recommend suitable restaurants based on your tastes and preferences that day, keeping the experience flexible, personal, and in tune with the spirit of private travel.

Day 2 Guiyang to Huangguoshu Waterfall

Morning: After breakfast at the hotel, set out from Guiyang with your private guide and private driver, leaving behind the city’s soft morning haze as you travel westward in the comfort of your private vehicle. Over the course of about 2.5 hours, the scenery outside gradually shifts from urban streets to rolling karst peaks and lush green countryside, until you arrive at the core area of the Huangguoshu waterfall cluster.

Your first stop is Doupotang Waterfall, the widest waterfall in the Huangguoshu scenic area and a famous filming location from the 1986 Journey to the West TV series. Even before reaching the main viewpoint, the deep roar of water carries through the mountain air. Then, as the trees open up, the view suddenly unfolds before you: a vast sheet of white water surging across a broad travertine dam, spilling through the valley like a long ribbon stretched between green hills.

Spray rises into the air as water crashes against stone, carrying with it the cool, fresh scent of the surrounding forest. It is a dramatic and unforgettable first impression – the kind of landscape that immediately sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Afternoon: After a short break, continue with a full exploration of the Tianxingqiao Scenic Area. Rather than only visiting the commonly seen upper section, this route takes you through the entire area, allowing you to experience one of the most fascinating stretches of karst scenery in Guizhou in full. Walk along the famous stepping stones of Shuishengbu, with flowing water beneath your feet, jagged rock formations at your side, and hanging vines and forest canopy above.

Sunlight filters through the trees in scattered golden patches, while stone, water, woodland, and caves merge into a landscape that feels like an enormous natural garden shaped over millions of years. Further along lies one of Tianxingqiao’s most memorable highlights: Silver Chain Waterfall. Here, streams of water spill delicately over a fan-shaped travertine slope, cascading in countless fine strands into the pool below, like silver chains falling into still water.

Compared with the grandeur of the larger falls, this part of the landscape reveals a quieter, more intricate beauty. From Tianxingqiao, continue to the true centerpiece of the day: Huangguoshu Waterfall, one of China’s most iconic natural wonders. Following the trail from distant viewpoints to closer vantage points, you will discover the waterfall from multiple angles.

From afar, the immense curtain of water – 77.8 meters high and 101 meters wide – plunges from the cliff into the Rhinoceros Pool below with thunderous force, filling the valley with mist and, on clear days, often creating rainbows across the water. If the cave is open and water conditions allow, step into the famous Water Curtain Cave, where the waterfall pours down just beyond the rock openings in front of you. Droplets strike your face, water echoes through the cave, and the sound of the falls surrounds you at close range.

At that moment, you are no longer simply looking at the waterfall – you are inside its world, experiencing its scale, energy, and timeless force in a way that feels completely immersive.

Accommodation: Huangguoshu / Anshun Area

Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)

Meals: Daily breakfast at the hotel

Day 3 Huangguoshu to Libo: Karst Landscapes

Morning: Leave behind the thunder of Huangguoshu in the morning and head deeper into southern Guizhou by private vehicle. The journey takes around 4 hours, but it feels far from long. Along the way, rolling karst hills stretch out like waves beyond the window, with scattered Bouyei villages and quiet farmland adding life to the landscape.

There’s no rush – just sit back and take in the scenery, with a short stop along the way if needed.

Afternoon: Upon arrival, continue directly to the Xiaoqikong Scenic Area, part of the UNESCO-listed South China Karst. Your route is carefully arranged from the west entrance to the east exit, following a mostly downhill path that makes the visit both relaxed and efficient.

Begin at Wolong Pool, known for its blue water and cascading flow. Continue through accessible sections of the Water Forest, then finish near the historic Xiaoqikong Bridge toward the east exit. The exact stops and walking sections follow the scenic area’s operating arrangements on the day. Along the valley, a series of small waterfalls unfold one after another, creating a continuous, immersive landscape often described as a “hidden emerald” of Guizhou.

Accommodation: Libo / Xiaoqikong Area

Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)

Meals: Daily breakfast at the hotel

Day 4 Libo to Xijiang: A Night in the Miao Village

Morning: After a relaxed morning in Libo, set out with your private guide and private driver for southeastern Guizhou. The journey takes around three hours, but there is no need to think about the road ahead – simply sit back and enjoy the changing scenery.

Outside the window, the graceful karst landscapes of southern Guizhou gradually give way to the more rugged mountain world of the Miao region, where terraced fields and traditional hillside villages appear between layers of green hills, revealing the raw charm of this lesser-known part of Guizhou.

Afternoon: Arrive at Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, officially recognized as the largest Miao village settlement in the world.

Walk deeper into the village along old stone-paved lanes and take in the sight of tiered wooden stilt houses climbing the slopes on both sides of the Baishui River valley. Every detail reflects the architectural traditions of the Miao people, shaped and preserved over generations. If you wish, you may change into beautifully crafted traditional Miao dress and wander through the old lanes for a closer feel of the village atmosphere.

At the Wind and Rain Bridge, pause to watch everyday local life unfold and enjoy one of the most authentic cultural scenes of the journey.

Evening: Later, head up to one of the village’s best hillside viewpoints and wait for night to fall. As thousands of lights gradually illuminate the valley from the foot of the mountain to the upper slopes, the whole village begins to resemble a river of stars flowing through the hills.

In the evening breeze, the faint sounds of lusheng music and Miao songs drift through the air, creating one of the most memorable and atmospheric moments of your time in Guizhou.

Accommodation: Xijiang Miao Village

Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel or guesthouse in the village area

Meals: Daily breakfast at the hotel

Day 5 Xijiang Miao Village: Heritage Crafts & Local Culture

Morning: This morning is dedicated to a deeper, hands-on experience of Miao intangible heritage. Guided by local craftspeople, you may try your hand at traditional Miao silverwork, shaping and polishing your own small piece while learning about the symbolism behind these intricate ornaments. Alternatively, you may experience Miao batik, using natural indigo dye to create patterns inspired by traditional motifs.

What you touch here is more than a craft – it is part of a cultural tradition passed down through generations. The piece you create also becomes a meaningful keepsake from your time in Xijiang.

Afternoon: Later, visit the Xijiang Miao Museum and the former residence of the Miao village leader.

Through traditional costumes, silver ornaments, ceremonial objects, and historical displays, the museum offers a deeper understanding of Miao legends, migration history, and cultural identity. Then step into the old wooden residence, where the structure of village life, inherited customs, and local leadership traditions come into clearer view. It is a slower and more reflective part of the day, offering a closer connection to the enduring spirit of Miao culture.

Evening: After dark, enjoy the village at your own pace. You may join a local bonfire gathering, where music, dance, and the rhythm of the lusheng bring the village to life in a warm and festive atmosphere. Or simply wander through the stone lanes under the evening lights, pausing to notice the timber craftsmanship of the stilt houses and the easy rhythm of local life after sunset.

In either case, the night offers a different and more intimate side of Xijiang.

Accommodation: Xijiang Miao Village

Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel or guesthouse in the village area

Meals: Daily breakfast at the hotel

Day 6 Xijiang to Zhenyuan: Ancient Town & Wuyang River

Morning: After breakfast, leave Xijiang behind and travel with your private guide and private driver to Zhenyuan Ancient Town. The drive takes about two hours, with peaceful countryside scenery unfolding along the way – rolling hills, rice fields, and winding streams that reveal a quieter side of eastern Guizhou.

Upon arrival, step into one of Guizhou’s best-preserved historic towns, a place with more than 2,200 years of history that once served as both a military stronghold and an important river trade center in southwest China.

Afternoon: Begin with a visit to Shiping Mountain, the best viewpoint over the old town.

As you walk up along the ancient city wall, the full panorama gradually opens up below: the emerald-green Wuyang River curves through the town in a natural S-shape, dividing the old settlement into two sides and creating the landscape that gives Zhenyuan its distinctive character. White-walled houses and dark-tiled rooftops line the riverbanks, with mountains and town blending into one harmonious scene.

Afterward, visit the Qinglong Cave Ancient Architectural Complex, a remarkable cliffside site first built during the Ming Dynasty. Combining elements of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, it is one of the most unusual historic landmarks in the region. Built directly against the rock face, the complex brings together the delicacy of classical Chinese architecture and the dramatic setting of the mountain landscape.

Later, take a stroll along the riverside lanes and former dock area, where traces of Zhenyuan’s old trading history can still be felt.

Evening: In the evening, enjoy a Wuyang River night cruise. As lanterns and warm lights begin to appear along both banks, their reflections shimmer across the water, giving the old town a calm and dreamlike atmosphere.

With the gentle river breeze and the quiet rhythm of the boat, this is one of the most relaxing ways to experience Zhenyuan after dark.

Day 7 Zhenyuan to Guiyang for Departure

According to your flight or high-speed rail schedule, your private driver will escort you comfortably back to Guiyang Airport or railway station, allowing your journey to end with the same smooth pace and ease with which it began.
