Accommodation: Beijing
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Not included today
Morning:
After breakfast, your private guide will meet you at the hotel and accompany you to Tiananmen Square. As the formal gateway to Beijing’s imperial core, the square offers a strong first impression of the city’s scale, history, and political symbolism. Your guide will help you understand its background before you continue toward the Forbidden City.
From here, enter the Forbidden City, the former imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties. As you walk through its grand gates, courtyards, ceremonial halls, and palace compounds, your guide will bring the stories of court life, imperial rituals, architecture, and dynastic power into context.
Afternoon:
After leaving the Forbidden City, continue to Jingshan Park. From the hilltop pavilion, you can enjoy one of the best panoramic views over the golden rooftops of the Forbidden City and Beijing’s historic central axis.
If time and energy allow, enjoy a relaxed walk through a nearby Beijing hutong or the Shichahai area, with old alleyways, courtyard houses, local snacks, and everyday neighborhood scenes. This gives you a softer look at old Beijing beyond the imperial landmarks.
Accommodation: Beijing
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Morning:
After breakfast, travel by private vehicle for about 1.5–2.5 hours to Mutianyu Great Wall, one of the most scenic and well-preserved sections of the Great Wall near Beijing. Set in the mountains north of the city, Mutianyu offers a quieter setting, restored watchtowers, and wide views across the surrounding ridges.
Take the cable car up the mountain, then walk along the ancient stone ramparts as the Great Wall winds across the forested hills. Your guide will share the history of the Wall’s defensive role and explain why it remains one of China’s most powerful cultural symbols. As the well-known Chinese saying goes, “He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man.” Here, the meaning is less about difficulty and more about standing before one of China’s most iconic landmarks and feeling its scale for yourself.
Afternoon:
Return to Beijing and visit the Summer Palace, the former imperial garden of the Qing dynasty. Walk beside Kunming Lake, view Longevity Hill, and enjoy the balance of pavilions, bridges, corridors, water, and mountain scenery that defines classical Chinese garden design.
Compared with the grandeur of the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace feels softer and more graceful, offering a different side of imperial life — one shaped by landscape, leisure, and refined aesthetics.
Accommodation: Beijing
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Morning:
After breakfast, visit the Temple of Heaven, one of Beijing’s most important imperial ritual sites. Here, emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties once came to pray for good harvests and harmony between heaven and earth.
Walk through the park with your guide and see key structures such as the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests and the Echo Wall. Compared with the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven feels more open and spiritual, offering another side of Beijing’s imperial culture.
Afternoon:
According to your train schedule, your guide and driver will escort you to the railway station for your high-speed train to Datong. After arrival, your local guide and driver in Datong will meet you at the station and transfer you to your hotel for check-in.
If time allows after check-in, your guide can accompany you for a relaxed first look at Datong. You may walk along Datong Ancient City Wall to get a feel for the old city, or explore the area around Huayan Temple, where your guide can introduce local food such as Datong shaomai and lamb soup.
Accommodation: Datong
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Morning:
After breakfast, visit Huayan Temple, one of Datong’s most important Buddhist temple complexes. Divided into the Upper and Lower Huayan Temple areas, the site is known for its Liao and Jin dynasty architecture, murals, and painted Buddhist sculptures.
Your guide will lead you through the main halls and explain how Datong became an important center of Buddhist culture in northern China. A particular highlight is the Bojia Jiaozang Hall, where the Liao-dynasty painted sculptures are regarded as some of the finest surviving examples of their period.
Afternoon:
Continue to Yungang Grottoes, one of China’s great Buddhist cave art sites. Explore major cave groups such as the Tanyao Five Caves, along with selected caves and temple areas where Northern Wei stone carving reached an extraordinary level of scale and detail.
As you walk through the grottoes, your guide will help you understand the artistic style, religious meaning, and historical background behind the Buddha figures, relief carvings, and cave layouts. After the visit, travel onward by private vehicle to Taiyuan and check in at your hotel.
Accommodation: Taiyuan
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Morning:
After breakfast, travel from Taiyuan toward Pingyao, with two important heritage stops on the way. First visit Zhenguo Temple, a quiet and atmospheric temple known for its ancient timber architecture and early painted sculptures. Your guide will introduce key halls such as the Wanfo Hall and explain why this temple is valued for its rare early architectural features.
Continue to Shuanglin Temple, one of Shanxi’s most remarkable sites for painted Buddhist sculpture. Inside its halls, thousands of expressive figures — guardians, arhats, bodhisattvas, and heavenly beings — create an unusually vivid world of Ming-dynasty religious art. The sculpture style here is rich in movement, facial expression, and detail, giving the temple a very different feeling from the grand stone grottoes in Datong.
Afternoon:
Arrive at Pingyao Ancient City, one of China’s best-preserved historic walled towns. Walk along the ancient city wall, visit Rishengchang Draft Bank, explore the Pingyao County Government Office, and stroll through Ming-Qing Street. Through these sites, your guide will help you understand Pingyao’s role in Shanxi merchant culture and early Chinese banking history.
Evening:
In the evening, you may choose to watch Encore Pingyao, an immersive performance that brings together local history, merchant culture, family stories, and Shanxi folk traditions. Your guide can help check show availability and assist with ticket arrangements if you are interested.
Accommodation: Pingyao
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Morning:
After breakfast, your private guide will meet you at the hotel, and you will travel by private vehicle to Wang Family Courtyard. Often described as a “folk Forbidden City,” this grand residential complex reflects the wealth, discipline, and social structure of a powerful Shanxi merchant family.
Walk through major courtyard areas such as Hongmenbao and Gaojiaya, where carved gateways, layered courtyards, brickwork, woodwork, and stone details reveal the architectural taste and family hierarchy of the Wang clan. Your guide will help you understand both the rise of Shanxi merchants and the way family values were built into the layout itself.
Afternoon:
Continue to Guangsheng Temple, an important Buddhist temple complex known for its architecture, murals, and the striking Feihong Pagoda, one of the best-preserved glazed pagodas in China.
Visit the upper temple, lower temple, and Water God Temple. The Water God Temple is especially known for its Yuan-dynasty murals, which offer a vivid look at religious belief, daily life, and artistic expression from that period. After the visit, continue by private vehicle to Xi County for hotel check-in.
Accommodation: Xi County
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Morning:
After breakfast, your private guide will meet you at the hotel, and you will travel by private vehicle to Xiaoxitian Temple. Though smaller in scale than many famous temple complexes, Xiaoxitian is one of Shanxi’s most impressive sites for Ming-dynasty Buddhist sculpture and mural art.
Visit key areas such as the Mahavira Hall and Wenshu Hall, where richly arranged painted figures, layered compositions, and quiet temple spaces create an almost otherworldly atmosphere. Your guide will help you understand the artistic details and religious symbolism behind this compact but powerful Buddhist site.
Afternoon:
Continue to Hukou Waterfall, where the Yellow River narrows suddenly and crashes through a rocky gorge. The force of the water, the sound of the river, and the rising mist make this one of the most dramatic natural scenes in northern China.
After time for viewing and photos, continue by private vehicle to Jincheng for hotel check-in.
Evening:
In the evening, if the performance schedule allows, you may attend a Datiehua molten iron fireworks show in Jincheng. This traditional folk performance is a form of Chinese intangible cultural heritage, where skilled performers strike molten iron into the night sky, creating a shower of sparks like golden fireworks.
Jincheng’s Situ Town is especially known for this performance. In 2024, 108 blacksmiths in Situ Town set a Guinness World Record for the largest molten iron fireworks performance, making it one of the city’s most distinctive cultural experiences. The show can be arranged based on the operating schedule and ticket availability.
Accommodation: Jincheng
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Morning:
After breakfast, leave Jincheng by private vehicle and travel to Luoyang in Henan Province, about 150 km away. The drive usually takes around 2 hours. Upon arrival in Luoyang, your local private guide will meet you and begin the afternoon sightseeing.
Afternoon:
Luoyang is one of China’s great ancient capitals, with a history closely connected to the Sui and Tang dynasties, Buddhist culture, and the reign of Empress Wu Zetian.
Start with Yingtianmen, the reconstructed southern gate of the palace city of Sui-Tang Luoyang. In imperial times, this area formed part of the political heart of the capital. Today, its grand gate structure helps visitors imagine the scale and ceremonial atmosphere of Luoyang during its peak as an imperial city.
Continue to Mingtang and Tiantang, two major landmarks associated with Empress Wu Zetian, China’s only female emperor. Your guide will explain how Luoyang rose in importance during her reign, and how these buildings reflect the political ambition, ritual life, and cultural confidence of the Tang period. If timing allows, go up to Tiantang for a wider view over the city and its evening lights.
Evening:
Later, continue with your guide to Luoyang Old Town Cross Street, a lively area where the city feels more local and everyday. After the palace-style architecture and imperial history, this is a good place to experience Luoyang’s street life, local food, and old-city atmosphere.
You can try local specialties such as Xiaojie pot stickers, jiangmian noodles, and bufan soup, while your guide helps recommend suitable snacks or restaurants based on your preferences.
Accommodation: Luoyang
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Morning:
After breakfast, your private guide will meet you at the hotel and accompany you to Longmen Grottoes, one of China’s most important Buddhist cave art sites. The visit usually includes the West Hill Grottoes, East Hill Grottoes, Xiangshan Temple, and Bai Garden, with the Vairocana Buddha as the main highlight.
As you walk along the riverside cliffs, your guide will help you understand how the grottoes developed over different dynasties, why Luoyang became such an important center for Buddhist art, and how the carvings reflect changes in religious belief, imperial patronage, and artistic style. The scale of the Buddha figures, the details of the smaller niches, and the setting beside the Yi River all make Longmen one of the most memorable sites on this journey.
Afternoon:
Continue to White Horse Temple, traditionally regarded as China’s first Buddhist temple. Here, your guide will introduce the story of Buddhism’s arrival in China and explain why Luoyang played such an important role in its early transmission.
Explore the traditional Chinese temple halls, Qiyun Pagoda, and the international Buddhist temple areas inspired by Indian, Thai and Myanmar architectural traditions. This mix of architectural styles gives the site a wider Buddhist context and makes it a good place to understand how Buddhism spread, adapted, and took root in China over time.
Accommodation: Luoyang
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Today, travel with your private guide and driver to Shaolin Temple at Mount Song. Known for both Chan Buddhism and Shaolin martial arts, this ancient monastery is one of the most recognizable cultural sites in China.
Upon arrival, begin your visit with the main temple complex. Explore key buildings such as the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Sutra Library, and Abbot’s Room, while learning about the temple’s history, Buddhist traditions, and the development of Chan Buddhism. The atmosphere here is quieter and more solemn than its popular image might suggest, giving you a chance to understand Shaolin not only as a martial arts symbol, but also as a living Buddhist monastery.
You will also watch a Shaolin kung fu performance, where trained martial artists demonstrate the speed, strength, discipline, and precision that have made Shaolin famous around the world. If available, photos with performers or monks may be arranged on site at your own expense.
Continue to the Pagoda Forest, the largest existing pagoda forest in China. These stone and brick pagodas were built to honor generations of eminent Shaolin monks. Your guide will explain the meaning of Buddhist pagoda burials and help you understand how the site reflects the long spiritual lineage of Shaolin Temple.
After the visit, return by private vehicle to Luoyang.

Afternoon:
Begin your Xi’an visit at Bell Tower and Drum Tower Square, one of the most recognizable areas in the old city center. Your guide will introduce the historical role of the towers and how this area still marks the heart of ancient Chang’an’s urban layout.
Continue to the Muslim Quarter, a lively neighborhood known for its food stalls, local snacks, narrow lanes, and long history of cultural exchange. Walk with your guide through the busy streets and try Xi’an specialties such as yangrou paomo, soup dumplings, zenggao, and traditional local snacks. Your guide can help recommend suitable places based on your tastes, so the experience feels local but not overwhelming.

After breakfast, your private guide and driver will meet you at the hotel and take you to the Museum of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Visit Pit 1, Pit 2, Pit 3, and the Bronze Chariot Exhibition, while your guide explains the historical background of Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s mausoleum complex and the story behind one of China’s greatest archaeological discoveries.
As you walk through the exhibition halls, you will see the scale of the ancient Qin army and the individual details of the warriors, from facial expressions and hairstyles to armor, weapons, and military formation. The visit gives you a close look at both the power of the Qin dynasty and the craftsmanship behind the figures.
Afternoon:
Continue with a hands-on Terracotta Warrior-making experience. Under the guidance of a professional instructor, you will learn how a small warrior figure is shaped and make your own Terracotta Warrior souvenir to take home.
Evening:
If you are interested, you may choose to watch The Song of Everlasting Sorrow at your own expense. This large-scale outdoor performance tells the love story of Emperor Xuanzong and Yang Guifei through music, dance, lighting, and dramatic stage effects.
Accommodation: Xi’an
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)
Meals: Hotel breakfast included
Morning:
After breakfast, your private guide and driver will meet you at the hotel and take you to the Shaanxi History Museum, one of the best places to understand the historical depth of Xi’an and the surrounding Shaanxi region.
With guided interpretation, explore the museum’s major collections and follow the development of Chinese civilization through different dynasties. The museum is especially known for its precious artifacts from the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties, when this region played a central role in China’s political, cultural, and artistic history.
Please note that Shaanxi History Museum tickets are very limited and often difficult to secure. If tickets are not available for your travel date, we will arrange Xi’an Museum as an alternative, so you can still enjoy a well-guided introduction to Xi’an’s history and cultural heritage. The standard visit does not include the museum’s special Treasure Hall ticket; this can be purchased separately depending on availability.
Afternoon:
Continue to the Xi’an Ancient City Wall, one of the best-preserved ancient city walls in China. You may walk or cycle along the top of the wall, overlooking the old city streets, gate towers, moat, and surrounding urban scenery.
Your guide will explain how Xi’an’s city defenses developed from earlier imperial capitals through the Ming dynasty, helping you understand the scale and strategic importance of this historic walled city.
Evening:
In the evening, visit Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City, a lively Tang-style pedestrian district near the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda area. Walk through illuminated streets with Tang-inspired architecture, light displays, outdoor performances, intangible cultural heritage elements, and popular photo spots.
If available on site, you may also interact with performers or staff dressed in Hanfu-style costumes, adding a more immersive touch to the evening atmosphere.
Accommodation: Xi’an
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)

After breakfast, your Xi’an guide and driver will escort you to the railway station for your high-speed train to Chengdu. Upon arrival, your local private guide and driver in Chengdu will meet you at the station and transfer you into the city.
Afternoon:
Begin your Chengdu visit at Wuhou Shrine, one of the city’s most important cultural sites connected with the Three Kingdoms period. With your guide’s explanation, learn about the stories of Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, and the Shu Kingdom, and understand why this period still holds such a strong place in Chinese historical memory.
Next to Wuhou Shrine, continue to Jinli Old Street for a relaxed walk through traditional-style lanes, teahouses, snack stalls, and small shops. This is a good place to experience Chengdu’s more casual rhythm, try local snacks such as sandanpao and tangyouguozi, and, if available, see folk performances such as Sichuan opera face-changing or shadow puppetry.
Accommodation: Chengdu
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)

Morning:
After breakfast, your private guide and driver will meet you at the hotel and take you toward Dujiangyan. Start with a photo stop at Yangtianwo Square, home to the famous 26-meter giant “selfie panda” sculpture, one of the most playful landmarks in the area.
Continue to Panda Valley, a quieter panda site near Dujiangyan. Compared with the more crowded panda bases in the city, Panda Valley feels more natural and relaxed. Here, you may see giant pandas in a calmer setting, as well as red pandas in a more open environment. Your guide will help explain Chengdu’s panda conservation work and the role of Dujiangyan in panda research and protection.
Afternoon:
Visit the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the greatest ancient engineering projects in China. Built more than 2,000 years ago, it still plays an important role in managing water for the Chengdu Plain.
Walk through key areas such as Yuzui Water-Dividing Dike, Feishayan Spillway, and Baopingkou Water Inlet, while your guide explains how this ancient system controls flooding, divides water, and supports agriculture without the use of a traditional dam.
Later, enjoy a walk around South Bridge, known for its atmospheric evening lights and the popular “blue tears” riverside view. After the visit, return by private vehicle to Chengdu and transfer back to your hotel for rest.
Accommodation: Chengdu
Hotel: Handpicked boutique hotel (Local 4-Star Standard or above)

Today, travel with your private guide and driver from Chengdu to Leshan to visit the Leshan Giant Buddha, one of Sichuan’s most iconic cultural landmarks and a major Buddhist heritage site.
After arriving at the scenic area, visit Lingyun Temple and Buddha Head Square, then continue through the site to view the Giant Buddha from different angles. Depending on site conditions and your preference, you may walk down the Nine-Bend Plank Path for a close-up view beside the cliff, or take a boat ride to see the full scale of the Buddha from the river.
Carved into the cliff face where three rivers meet, the Leshan Giant Buddha was created not only as a religious monument, but also as a symbol of protection and blessing for people traveling through these waters. Your guide will explain the history of the statue, its Buddhist meaning, and the remarkable engineering behind its construction.
During the visit, you may also take time to offer blessings for your family in this peaceful Buddhist setting. Before returning to Chengdu, enjoy time for local Leshan food, which is well known across Sichuan for its bold flavors and casual street-style atmosphere.

This tour is best suited to travelers who are interested in Chinese history, ancient architecture, Buddhist art, ancient capitals, regional culture, and heritage sites. It works especially well for travelers who enjoy guided cultural context during sightseeing, rather than only visiting famous landmarks without much background.
Yes, but it is better suited to first-time visitors who want a more culture-focused and less conventional China route. The itinerary still includes major highlights such as Beijing, the Great Wall, Xi’an, Chengdu, pandas, and the Leshan Giant Buddha, but it does not follow the more common route through Shanghai, Zhangjiajie, Guilin, or Chongqing.
Instead, this journey adds Shanxi and Luoyang, making it a more niche heritage route with a stronger focus on ancient architecture, Buddhist art, and historical depth.
This is a rich, culture-heavy itinerary with several city changes and some longer road transfers, especially through Shanxi and Henan. Because it is arranged as a private tour, the daily pace can be adjusted based on your family’s comfort level, interests, and travel style.
However, this route is mainly designed around history, ancient architecture, Buddhist art, museums, temples, grottoes, and heritage towns. It may not be the best choice for families with very young children who need a lighter or more entertainment-focused itinerary. For families with older children or teenagers who enjoy history and culture, the route can work very well with proper pacing.
The best time for this route is usually April to June, September to November, and early December. These months generally offer more comfortable weather for long sightseeing days across Beijing, Shanxi, Luoyang, Xi’an, Chengdu, Dujiangyan, and Leshan.
April to June is good for spring scenery and mild temperatures, while September to November is often the most comfortable period for clear weather and autumn colors. Early December can also be a good choice if you prefer fewer crowds and a quieter heritage-focused journey, though northern destinations such as Beijing, Shanxi, Luoyang, and Xi’an may feel cold.
Summer is possible, but some cities can be hot, and winter after mid-December is better suited to travelers who are comfortable with colder weather.
