What You’ll Experience on This 13-Day Classic China Tour

Beijing, Xi’an, Tibet, Shanghai

This 13-day journey is designed for travelers who want more than a standard first trip to China. It begins in Beijing and Xi’an, where imperial landmarks, ancient cityscapes, and some of the country’s most important historical sites reveal the scale of China’s dynastic past. Then the route rises onto the Tibetan Plateau, where the atmosphere changes completely — from imperial grandeur to mountain light, monastery life, and a culture shaped by faith, altitude, and tradition.

From the Great Wall and the Forbidden City to the Terracotta Warriors, from the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple to the open scenery of Namtso Lake, this itinerary brings together several of China’s most powerful contrasts in one well-structured journey. It is not just a checklist of famous places, but a route with clear progression: imperial capitals, ancient heritage, sacred Tibet, and finally the energy and skyline of modern Shanghai.

As you walk into its grand assembly halls and quiet monastic spaces, you will gain a deeper sense of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and the enduring spiritual life that has shaped this sacred place for centuries.

Afternoon:
In the afternoon, continue to Sera Monastery, best known for its famous monks’ debate. In the monastery courtyard, monks engage in animated philosophical discussion through dramatic hand claps, forceful gestures, and rhythmic body movements. More than a religious practice, this lively exchange offers a fascinating window into Tibetan Buddhist learning, discipline, and intellectual tradition.

Day 9 · Lhasa · Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple & Local Tea House

As you pass through its chapels, sacred halls, and mural-lined corridors, you will encounter a world of golden shrines, religious art, and centuries of Tibetan history gathered under one roof.
