Start at Long Lake, the highest point in the park at about 3,100 meters, where the deep blue water is framed by the Minshan peaks.
Continue with a short downhill walk to Five-Color Pond, where mineral layers and ancient fallen trunks beneath the surface create shifting shades of emerald and turquoise.
Midday: Around noon, reach the Nuorilang Visitor Hub, the central point where the park eco-bus routes meet. This is a practical place to rest and have lunch without backtracking, and it positions you well for the afternoon waterfall route.

At around 7:30 PM, your guide and driver will escort you to Chaotianmen Pier to assist with cruise check-in.

Embarkation times and dock locations may vary depending on water levels and weather conditions. It is recommended to have dinner near Chaotianmen before boarding, as most cruises do not serve dinner on the first night. After boarding, onboard cruise services and ship activities are handled by the cruise team rather than by your private city guide.
Due to ongoing renovations, stairs may be required at the pier. Luggage porter service is available for a small fee (approximately 20–30 RMB per piece).

Morning: Wake up to the gentle rhythm of the Yangtze as soft mist drifts across the emerald cliffs of the Three Gorges. At 8:00 AM, enjoy a relaxed buffet breakfast while the river glides past your window. Whether seated indoors or on the open sun deck, the fresh river air and ever-changing scenery create a peaceful start to the day.
The rest of the morning is yours to enjoy the slow, graceful pace of life on board. You may join a tai chi session on deck, attend a short cultural talk about the Yangtze, or simply sit with a coffee and watch the limestone peaks pass by. From light activities to quiet corners for reflection, the ship offers many ways to connect with the spirit of the river.
Afternoon: At 1:00 PM, disembark with your local guide to visit Fengdu Ghost City, a legendary site known in Chinese folklore as the gateway to the underworld. Set on Ming Mountain, this fascinating complex of temples and shrines reflects ancient beliefs about life, death, and moral judgment. As you explore the pathways and halls, you will see dramatic statues and carvings that bring these legends to life.
The atmosphere is both mysterious and deeply cultural, offering insight into a side of Chinese history rarely seen by visitors. Travel note: Excursion programs vary by cruise company. Fengdu may be included or offered as an optional tour depending on your vessel.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as there are many steps and uneven paths.
Evening: As the ship sails onward toward Zhong County, you may choose to join one of the most memorable cultural experiences of the entire cruise. An optional evening performance, “The Warring States of the Three Kingdoms” (Fengyan Sanguo), brings the heroic story of General Guan Yu to life.
Set against the natural backdrop of the Yangtze River, this large-scale outdoor show combines music, lights, water effects, and live performers to recreate the dramatic history of the Three Kingdoms era in a truly immersive way. After the show, return to the ship and relax beneath the night sky as your cruise continues deeper into the heart of the Three Gorges.
Accommodation: Yangtze River Cruise

Morning: Wake up to the most iconic stretch of your Yangtze journey as the ship enters the heart of the Three Gorges. This is a morning best spent on the sun deck, watching the dramatic landscapes of Qutang Gorge and Wu Gorge unfold like a traditional Chinese scroll painting. At 8:30 AM, the ship passes through the legendary Kuimen Gate, the narrow entrance to Qutang Gorge.
Sheer limestone cliffs rise straight from the river, forming a powerful natural gateway where the mountains seem to touch the sky. Depending on your cruise line, the morning may include a stop in Fengjie. Many premium vessels (such as Century, Victoria, or Yangtze Gold) offer an optional excursion to White Emperor City.
Known as the “City of Poets,” this historic site has been celebrated in over 1,400 classical Chinese poems and is closely linked to stories from the Three Kingdoms era, including Liu Bei’s final charge to Zhuge Liang. Travel tip: The viewing platform at White Emperor City offers the famous perspective of Kuimen Gate—the very scene printed on the back of China’s 10 RMB banknote.
Afternoon: At around 1:30 PM, the ship approaches Wu Gorge, known for its misty peaks and deep, forested valleys. To experience the gorges more intimately, you will transfer to a smaller boat for a side-stream excursion, such as Goddess Stream, Shennong Stream, or the Lesser Three Gorges (depending on your vessel). As you glide through these narrow waterways, towering canyon walls close in on both sides.
You may spot the mysterious “hanging coffins” of the ancient Bo people, tucked high into the cliffs. The quiet of the side streams offers a peaceful contrast to the grandeur of the main river.
Evening: Your final night on the Yangtze is marked by the Captain’s Farewell Banquet. Enjoy a celebratory dinner, cultural performances by the crew, and a warm closing to your river journey. It is a memorable way to reflect on the landscapes, stories, and moments shared along China’s great river.
Travel Notes: Some cruises offer optional mountain-top viewpoints such as the Top of the Three Gorges or the Goddess Sky Road, providing sweeping aerial views of the gorge system. Excursion schedules may vary depending on your cruise line and river conditions.

Morning: At 8:00 AM, after your final breakfast on board, complete check-out and disembark at Maoping Port. Begin the day with a visit to the Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest hydroelectric project and one of modern China’s greatest engineering achievements. Located in the Xiling Gorge section of the Yangtze River, the dam stretches across the river like a steel-and-concrete mountain.
From Tanzi Ridge, enjoy sweeping views of the entire complex while your guide explains how this project reshaped the river, the region, and China’s energy future. For a deeper perspective, you may choose the optional ship lift, the largest of its kind in the world. The journey takes about 40 minutes and offers a rare close-up look at the technology that raises massive vessels through the dam.
Afternoon: At around 1:30 PM, after completing your dam visit, transfer to the Yichang Three Gorges Visitor Center, where your local guide will meet you. You will then be escorted by private vehicle to Yichang East Railway Station to board a high-speed train to Shanghai.
